Volunteers Change Lives
World Relief volunteers welcome refugees to their new lives in America. From meeting them at The Nashville Airport, to teaching them English and how to navigate American grocery stores, our volunteers accompany refugees on their journeys between cultures. Volunteering at World Relief is a beautiful way to “welcome the stranger” into your life, and to build cross-cultural friendships.

World Relief has the following long-term volunteer positions for people interested in directly working with refugees:

• Cultural Companions help newly-arrived refugees adjust to American culture by practicing English with them, answering questions they may have, and providing companionship.
• Road Runners support World Relief casework staff by transporting refugees to and from necessary and/or urgent appointments.
• Host Homes host refugee families in their homes for the first 7-10 days they are in America, and orient them to American households and life.
• Interns assist World Relief casework staff to gain professional experience in working with refugees or cross-cultural ministry.

Other short-term opportunities to serve the mission of World Relief include:

• Teaching ESL
• Assisting World Relief staff with administrative work.
• Teaching a life-skills class (budgeting, cooking, pre-natal care, etc.)
• Advocating for refugee-related policy and legislation.
• Planning World Relief events.
• Collecting and delivering furniture for refugees’ first apartments in America.
